While out in Rome for the World Skateboarding Tour, World Skate caught up with Leticia Bufoni to talk about her new role as Chair of the Skateboarding Technical Commission, which is a major shift for someone who’s spent most of her life in the contest spotlight.
In the interview, we hear Leticia talk about what it’s like to experience these major events from the other side these days—not as one of the competing skateboarders, but more so as a leader helping shape the future of this side of skateboarding. From contest format improvements to supporting the next generation of rippers, I’d say Leticia was the perfect choice for the role.

Back in February, World Skate made the announcement that Leticia would be taking on the role, and it was pretty big news (see the post above for more on that). She’s unarguably helped pave the way for women’s skateboarding to be on the level it’s at today. More importantly, she’s just a major advocate for skateboarding in general.
Skateboarding is huge these days. It’s actually kind of a trip. And hearing her reflect on the evolution of skateboarding over the past 20-22 years—basically since she first stepped on a board—was pretty rad and insightful as well.
It’s cool to see Bufoni continue to break new ground. We need people like her in these roles, in all honesty. You certainly don’t need me to tell you that, but it’s true. I’m excited to see what she’ll bring to the table in the years to come. I just hope she keeps progressing on her board all the same. Yeah, Leticia!
