After a solid day skating a jam-packed demo in Japan, grabbing food with the Santa Cruz team, and making the hour-long drive back home, most of the squad was ready to wind down. But not Erick Winkowski.

It was a battle for the ages, one that Winkowski clearly had on his mind the entire day. This wasn’t your average 14-stair, either—it’s a beast. Tall. Steep. Sketchy. It’s the perfect spot for Winkowski to do his thing. I don’t think he would’ve had it any other way.

Erick Winkowski is one of the raddest dudes in skateboarding. His unique bag of tricks and creative approach to every spot he skates is a constant breath of fresh air. He’s in a world of his own and we love to see it. From the gnarliest backyard pools to the crustiest DIY spots to heavy sets in the streets like we saw above, the dude is just a straight-up skateboarder. A true all-terrain killer.
In my opinion. we need skaters like Erick now more than ever. I’m a fan of all types of skateboarding, don’t get me wrong. And I’m always down to give respect where respect is due, but there’s a lot of skaters out there sort of just copying each other these days. You know? Winkowski is a true original.
