Soneium And DayOneDream Want To Put K-Pop Revenue Onchain

K-pop royalties and concert revenue are becoming the latest real-world assets targeted for tokenization.

Soneium, the Ethereum Layer 2 developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, has partnered with South Korean entertainment company DayOneDream to bring K-pop intellectual property onto blockchain infrastructure.

The collaboration centers on DayOneDream’s WAVIST platform.

The Asset Is The Revenue, Not The Artist

WAVIST is designed to turn specific entertainment cash flows into investable onchain products.

Those can include revenue associated with concerts, content, streaming and other intellectual-property rights.

The structure does not require an artist or production company to sell the underlying IP itself.

Instead, a defined stream of future income can be packaged separately, with issuance and settlement records maintained onchain.

WAVIST has already completed a full lifecycle for a K-pop IP-backed tokenized note, including issuance, distribution, repayment and token burning.

The new Soneium partnership is intended to develop that model further.

DayOneDream manages and operates businesses around artists including BTOB, Lee Chae Yeon, MeMi and 2F, as well as concerts and publishing.

The companies have not announced which artist or asset will be used for the first Soneium-based offering.

They also have not disclosed its size or launch date.

Entertainment Is An Unusual RWA Market

Most real-world asset tokenization has concentrated on Treasury bills, credit, funds and equities.

Entertainment rights are much less standardized.

A concert tour, catalogue or streaming royalty stream can produce real cash flow, but valuing that income is very different from valuing a government bond.

That is part of what makes the Soneium partnership interesting.

DayOneDream brings access to entertainment assets.

WAVIST provides the tokenization structure.

Soneium provides the blockchain environment through which future products can be issued and accessed.

Participation will still depend on investor eligibility and applicable securities rules.

This is therefore not a promise that any fan will soon be able to buy part of a favourite artist’s catalogue with a crypto wallet.

The first offerings still need to be structured.

But the direction is clear.

Tokenization is expanding beyond assets that already look like conventional financial products.

K-pop has enormous global demand and recurring revenue from concerts, streaming, content and licensing.

Soneium and DayOneDream are betting that some of those cash flows can become financial assets in their own right.
