The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is recalling several organic cheese products under the Farm Boy, L’Ancêtre, and Life Smart brands due to possible Listeria contamination.
The agency says the national recall was triggered by testing and there have been no reported illnesses connected to consumption of the products.
The affected products include Farm Boy organic Swiss, medium cheddar, old cheddar, extra sharp and three-year-old cheddar cheeses with a best before date of July 30, 2027.
Life Smart organic part skim mozzarella cheese with a best before date of March 30, 2027, is also being recalled, as are several shredded organic cheeses made by L’Ancêtre with best before dates of this December, next January and next July.
L’Ancetre’s organic Swiss cheese with a best before date of July 30, 2027, is also included.
A full list of the recalled products can be found here. They were sold in stores across the country.
Are food recalls in Canada becoming more common?
The CFIA says people should not consume the product if they have it in their home, and to throw it out or return it to wherever they bought it. It warns that products that look and smell normal can still make someone sick.
Symptoms of Listeria include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems are at greater risk.
