Rachelle Desrochers, 54, of Ottawa was last seen on March 14 on Elgin Street. Police reported Sunday that they have reason to believe she was killed and that her body may be in a local landfill.

Search efforts there are ongoing but her remains have not been found, police said.

The suspect, Joshua Blair from Ottawa, was charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a dead body and appeared in court on Sunday morning, said police.

Police asked anyone with information about the case to contact the homicide unit at 613-236-1222, extension 5493.

Police are considering the case a femicide.
