Prime Minister Mark Carney is on P.E.I. Monday to announce “new measure to lower costs for Canadians.”

The event is happening in Prince County and Carney is expected to take questions after the announcement, according to the Prime Minister’s Office website.
This will be Carney’s first time on P.E.I. as prime minister. During the federal election campaign, Carney pledged to cut the cost to cross the Confederation Bridge which connects the Island with New Brunswick by more than half, and reduce the cost of the Northumberland ferry service between P.E.I. and Nova Scotia by at least 50 per cent.
Last week, Prince Edward Island Premier Rob Lantz said that he was confident bridge and ferry tolls would be reduced soon after speaking with the prime minister during meetings with his provincial counterparts. At the time, Lantz said he couldn’t specify a timeline but was “10 out of 10” confident it would happen.
