Mounties in Burnaby, B.C., are asking for help in finding an 11-year-old boy, who they say could be staying with a caretaker unknown to them.

RCMP are offering few details after announcing late Wednesday night that Kai Pavlovic was missing, but have released photographs of the child and are asking for tips in locating him.

Pavlovic is described as five feet tall, with a thin build and brown hair.

In a Thursday afternoon update, police said they received a request for a well-being check for Pavlovic on Sept. 26.

“As part of the investigation, police have spoken to Kai’s family members and have reason to believe Kai is staying with a caretaker who is unknown to police,” RCMP said.

Police added that efforts to confirm Pavlovic’s whereabouts “have so far been unsuccessful.”

Mounties have not disclosed when the 11-year-old was last seen or what area of Burnaby he lives in.

“Our initial priority was to make people aware Kai was missing and to share his picture with the public,” said Cpl. Laura Hirst in the statement.

RCMP added that at this point in the investigation, the case does not meet the criteria for issuing an Amber Alert — a broadcast-intrusive alert that is sent in cases of abduction or imminent danger to a child.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Pavlovic is urged to contact their local police, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
