The recall applies to more than 20,000 vehicles in Canada, 320,000 in the U.S. and over 30,000 in other markets.

Chrysler, which is owned by Netherlands-based Stellantis, is aware of 19 fires and one injury potentially related to the issue, which were discovered through an internal investigation.

The batteries were manufactured by Samsung SDI America, based in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Owners of the vehicles — which include certain Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles with model years between 2020-2025 and some Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe SUVs with model years from 2022-2026 — are being advised to park the vehicles outside and away from structures until a remedy for the problem is determined.

Vehicle owners should also avoid charging the vehicles because the risk is reduced when the battery is depleted, according to the company.

Interim notification letters are expected to be mailed to vehicle owners by Dec. 2, with additional letters to be sent once the final remedy is available.

The number for the recall is 68C and owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Owners can also check Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database.
