Chris Andrews is one of the organizers of the We Stand on Guard Once More benefit concert, and is performing with his band Shanneyganock.

“It’s an honour to be able to do a little bit of help for our province when it’s in need,” Andrews said.

“It’s probably never happened before to have this many Newfoundland traditional acts together in one show.”

The sold-out show is happening at the Jag Soundhouse in St. John’s, but Andrews said he’s hoping “to raise as much money as we can” from viewers and listeners at home, who can tune in on any local media channel for coverage.

“We’re hoping that people will come together, and if you’re at the cabin, invite people over to your cabin or to your shed or into the kitchen and people will watch together and enjoy this night and show support to our fellow Newfoundlanders and Labradorians,” he said.

The charity has previously raised funds for communities impacted by Hurricane Igor in 2010 and post-tropical storm Fiona in 2022.

The last concert raised $2.2 million for post-tropical storm Fiona relief on Newfoundland’s southwest coast, which included a matching of funds from the federal government. So far, no similar guarantee has been made.

All proceeds will go to the Canadian Red Cross N.L. Wildfire Response Fund.

Hosted by CBC’s Damhnait Doyle and NTV’s Toni Marie Wiseman, the lineup includes:

Tune in on Monday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. NT / 7 p.m. AT on CBC TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, CBC Listen and on the CBC N.L. YouTube page.

It’s also available on NTV, VOCM, Big Land FM, New Country Radio, OZFM and Coast 101.1.
