Three Peel police officers have been suspended in connection with a months-long corruption probe that led to the arrest of seven Toronto police officers, and one retired constable, earlier this week.
No officers have been charged in connection with the months-long York Regional Police (YRP) probe, which began in the wake of an alleged conspiracy to kill a corrections official last June.
However, Peel Const. Tyler Bell-Morena told CBC News in a statement that the force “has administratively suspended three officers, pending further investigation by YRP.”
Bell-Morena declined further comment, citing the need to “protect the integrity of their investigation.”
York Regional Police says it is too early to speculate whether other police services are involved. CBC News contacted several police departments. So far, the Halton Regional Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police say none of their officers are suspended or facing charges in connection with the investigation.
