One person has been arrested for impaired driving after a supercar crashed and was stuck propped up against a wall outside Casa Loma.

Officers responded to reports of a crash near Spadina Road and Austin Terrace around 11:59 p.m. Thursday, said Const. Laura Brabant with Toronto police.

The vehicle allegedly struck a light pole and a bike rack, she said. Photos from the scene show a bright orange McLaren sports car stuck in an upright position against a wall leading to the Casa Loma parking lot.

The driver, who was arrested, and a passenger were transported to hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, said Brabant. She urged any witnesses to contact police.

Images at the scene showed the aftermath of the crash that appeared to have damaged a light pole and sent several bikes flying from the Bike Share Toronto docking station. Other photos showed a second McLaren stopped nearby that appeared to be undamaged.

The damaged vehicle had been cleared from the site Friday morning, but orange and black debris from the car and bikes still littered the area.

Similar base models of the crashed supercar sell for upwards of $200,000, according to a Toronto McLaren dealer’s website.

Cars “go flying” down the road and “irresponsible people” often race through the area, resident Alex Santis told CBC News.

It’s not the first time that a supercar has crashed in the area, he said, noting a Corvette was completely destroyed a few years back just steps away from Thursday night’s crash site.

“Well, luckily, nobody got seriously hurt,” he said, “[Crashes] happens a lot [in this area], I’ve seen a lot.”

Santis said the city should consider adding more streetlights or signage to make sure these incidents don’t happen again.
