Carolina’s Jordan Martinook won Game 2 in double overtime Monday night to take a 2-0 series lead to Ottawa.
A previous goal by Carolina’s Mark Jankowski late in the first overtime period was overturned on an offside review.
Like Game 1, Carolina staked out a 2-0 lead in this game. Both games have now included an opening goal by Logan Stankoven assisted by Taylor Hall and Jackson Blake.
Unlike what ended up being a 22-save shutout for Frederik Andersen on Saturday, Ottawa was able to equalize with goals in the back half of the second period from Drake Batherson and Dylan Cozens.
That was despite being outshot 28-16 by the Hurricanes by the end of the second.
The setting now shifts to Ottawa’s Canadian Tire Centre for Games 3 and 4 of the first round Thursday night and Saturday afternoon.
Carolina is making its eighth playoff run in a row, winning at least a round for five consecutive years. Ottawa is trying to win a playoff round for the first time since 2017.
