The Montreal Canadiens opened the Eastern Conference final with a 6-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night.
Montreal takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference final with the road victory after coming off back-to-back seven-game series wins over Tampa Bay and Buffalo. The Canadiens had also swept the regular-season series against the ‘Canes 3-0.
The Hurricanes were playing for the first time since May 9 after opening the playoffs with eight straight wins.
Carolina is appearing in its second straight conference final, while Montreal is looking to reach the Stanley Cup final for the first time since 2021.
