Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas will serve as general manager of the Canadian men’s team at the world hockey championship next month.
The tournament is set for May 9-25 in Stockholm, Sweden and Herning, Denmark.
Dubas, as director of player personnel, recently helped the Canadian team win the championship at the 4 Nations Face-Off. He also served as associate GM at the 2024 world playdowns.
Dubas will be supported by player relations adviser Ryan Getzlaf and Scott Salmond, the senior vice-president of high performance and hockey operations, Hockey Canada said Thursday.
Four NHL executives — Dennis Bonvie, Gregory Campbell, Andrew Cogliano and Jason Spezza — will assist with evaluating and selecting players.
The coaching staff and players will be named over the coming weeks.

“Kyle is an excellent general manager, and his recent experience at the 4 Nations Face-Off and last year’s men’s worlds will be beneficial in building and leading Canada’s national men’s team as it looks to reclaim gold at the IIHF world championship,” team executive director Doug Armstrong said in a statement.
Canada finished fourth at the 2024 world playdowns in Prague. Czechia won the gold medal.
Dubas in his second season as GM and president of hockey operations with the Penguins. He previously served as GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs and American Hockey League’s Toronto Marlies.
Canada will open the tournament May 10 against Slovenia.
