The West Vancouver Police Department said in a statement that it responded to reports of someone in medical distress around 7:30 p.m. The man was then pronounced dead at the scene.

Police called it a “tragic accident” in a statement Friday. The death does not appear to be suspicious, they added, with no obvious indications of technical or mechanical issues with the chairlift.

The person’s family has been notified and is receiving support, police said.

Victims’ services was also called in to provide help to those who witnessed what happened.

“The West Vancouver Police Department extends our deepest condolences to all impacted by this tragic incident,” said the statement.

B.C. Emergency Health Services confirmed it responded with two ambulances and a paramedic specialist response unit. It shared no patients were taken to the hospital.

Cypress Mountain confirmed the fatality involved a resort guest.

“Cypress Mountain extends our heartfelt condolences and support to the guest’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” the resort said in an email statement.

It said any members of the public who requires support can access Victims’ Services at 604-925-7468, or alternatively use Victim Link BC, which is available 24 hours a day, by calling or texting 1-800-563-0808 or visiting VictimLinkBC.ca.
