The Vancouver Canucks have dealt veteran defenceman Tyler Myers to the Dallas Stars.

The Canucks receive a second-round pick in the 2027 draft and a fourth-round selection in 2029. Vancouver will retain half of Myers’s $3 million US cap hit through next season.

The NHL trade deadline is Friday at 3 p.m. ET.

Myers, 36, was held out of Vancouver’s last three games for what the NHL club described as “roster management.”

The six-foot-eight Canadian blue liner was in his seventh season with the Canucks (18-35-7) after signing with the team as a free agent in July 2019 and had one goal and seven assists over 57 games in the 205-26 campaign.

He was often paired with some of Vancouver’s up-and-coming defenders, including time with Quinn Hughes early in the star player’s career.

Myers was originally selected 12th overall by the Sabres in the 2008 draft and won the Calder Trophy as the league’s top rookie following the 2009-10 campaign.

He is now in his 17th NHL season, having logged time with Vancouver, Buffalo and the Winnipeg Jets over 1,123 regular-season games. He has 100 goals, 303 assists during his time in the league.

Canucks players said after a 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets last week Myers would be missed.

“He’s been a valuable part of this team for a long time, and especially in a tie game like that, he’s a guy you want on the ice,” said winger Drew O’Connor. “And he’s a leader, and he’s vocal so it’s definitely something you notice when he’s not there.”

Head coach Adam Foote said he really enjoyed coaching the big defenceman.

“He’s a great, great guy, good human,” he said.

“You know, every year it seems like you lose one you like. And it’s part of the game. Over the years if you play long enough it’s going to continue to happen. And you know, it’s part of it.”

Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Chris Tanev is out for the rest of the season, the NHL team announced.

The Leafs said the veteran underwent successful core muscle surgery in New York City.

Tanev, 36, only suited up for 11 games in what has been a season riddled by injuries.

The six-foot-three, 200-pound shutdown blue liner hasn’t played since Dec. 28 in a 3-2 overtime road loss against Detroit.

Tanev is expected to be able to participate in training camp in September.

Tanev has 36 goals and 210 points in 878 NHL regular-season games since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2010-11. He has also played for Vancouver, Calgary and Dallas.
