A 34-year-old Conception Bay North man dubbed a “prolific offender” by the RCMP was arrested again on Sunday evening, less than two weeks after being granted bail.

Justin King is facing new charges of extortion, break and enter with intent, forcible confinement, possessing a break-in instrument and four breaches of court conditions.

He was already facing 21 charges related to five break-and-enters.

His release on March 11 caused anger among his alleged victims and residents of the north shore communities.

Judge Andrew Wadden granted him bail despite the Crown’s insistence that King remain behind bars. Prosecutor Christopher Burt said King had shown a repeated disregard for release conditions, and being arrested was the only thing that stopped him from offending.

Wadden told King he was giving him one last shot and urged him not to mess it up.

“If you return to custody, you will likely be in the position of having used your last chance,” Wadden told King. “Please don’t waste this chance.”

Police responded to a report of a break and enter in Victoria at 1:12 a.m. on Sunday, according to a release sent by the RCMP on Monday.

The homeowner identified the suspect as Justin King, police say.

Court documents filed on Monday morning shed some more light on the details of the alleged incident.

According to those documents, the extortion charge stems from allegations he attempted to “induce [a woman] by threats to engage in sexual intercourse.” It’s alleged he forcibly confined the same woman.

He’s also accused of breaking a list of five release conditions, including a no-contact order with the woman he’s alleged to have extorted and forcibly confined. It’s also alleged he broke a court-ordered curfew, and was in possession of a cellular device.

King is due in court on Monday afternoon.
