Brendan Gallagher, whose time with the Montreal Canadiens is all but over, will be celebrated at city hall this week and named an honorary citizen.
The ceremony will take place Thursday at 3 p.m.
Gallagher has spent his entire 14-year NHL career with the Habs, but was used sparingly during this most recent playoff run to the Eastern Conference final.
He played in three out of the Habs’ 19 games.
During the end-of-season media availability after the team was eliminated in five games by the Carolina Hurricanes — the eventual Stanley Cup champions — Gallagher acknowledged that his time with the Montreal Canadiens was over.
According to the City of Montreal’s website, an honorary citizen is someone who had a lasting impact on the well-being of Montrealers through their actions, art and commitment.
According the website, the honour was last given in 2023 to Roger Thibault and Theo Wouters — one of the first same-sex couples to enter into a civil union in North America.
Gallagher has recorded 246 goals, 241 assists for a total 487 points in 911 NHL games.
