A Calgary boy rescued after nearly drowning in a B.C. river is recovering in hospital, but his family says his lungs are badly damaged.
Nine-year-old Paul-Angelo Warren was swimming and diving in the Shuswap River near Enderby on the afternoon of Aug. 3 when he didn’t come up for air.
His mother Maria Warren says beachgoers rushed in to help, pulling him out of the water minutes after he disappeared.
An RCMP news release says the boy was pinned against fallen deadwood by the river’s current before being brought to the shore and given CPR.
Police believe he may have been under water for as long as 10 minutes.

The boy is in Vancouver Children’s Hospital with his family by his side.
“I always, always stay with him because I want to make sure that when he opens his eyes, he will see me right away and hear my voice,” Maria said Tuesday in an interview.
