Forty Million Downloads Is Not Forty Million Active Users
App-download milestones are useful for measuring distribution.
They are not the same thing as monthly active users, funded wallets or people who transact every day.
A single user can also download an app on more than one device or reinstall it over time.
So the 40 million figure should be understood as cumulative distribution rather than a direct measure of current engagement.
Even with that caveat, scale matters for a wallet business.
A large installed base gives Bitget more room to distribute swaps, tokenized-stock products, DeFi access and other financial services directly through the wallet interface.
Wallets Are Becoming Full Trading Platforms
The line between an exchange app and a self-custody wallet keeps getting thinner.
Modern wallets increasingly include integrated trading, token discovery, yield products, cross-chain transfers and access to tokenized traditional assets.
That makes user distribution strategically important.
If a wallet can turn a large download base into repeat activity, it becomes a direct gateway to onchain financial products rather than simply a place to store keys.
Bitget’s milestone does not tell us how many of those 40 million downloads are active today.
It does show the size of the top of the funnel.
The next useful metrics would be active wallets, transaction frequency and the share of users adopting the newer financial products inside the app.
For now, the company can point to 40 million cumulative downloads as evidence that its wallet has reached a meaningfully global audience.
The milestone also gives Bitget a useful benchmark against which future engagement can be judged. If the wallet keeps growing but trading, swaps and onchain activity do not rise with it, downloads will matter less. If newer features convert those installs into repeat use, the distribution advantage becomes much more valuable. Wallets are one of the few crypto products that can sit between users and multiple chains at once, so the companies that win distribution may eventually have more influence over where liquidity, trades and tokenized assets are routed than the headline download number suggests today.
