A 39-year-old man from Nipawin, Sask., was killed Sunday after an SUV and a pick-up truck crashed at the intersection of Highway 35 and Highway 335.
According to RCMP, it happened at around 3:40 p.m. CST near Armley, a small community 306 kilometres northeast of Regina.
Police say an SUV travelling on Highway 335 collided with the truck driving on Highway 35, killing the driver of the SUV.
The driver of the truck was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
It’s the same intersection where 16 people were killed eight years ago.
Players and staff of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Humboldt Broncos were on the team bus travelling to Nipawin for a game when a semi-truck blew through a stop sign on Highway 335.

It became one of Canada’s deadliest bus crashes.
In addition to the 16 people who died that day, another 13 were injured.
The driver of the semi truck, Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, pleaded guilty to 16 counts of dangerous driving causing death and 13 counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

Sidhu was sentenced to eight years in prison, the longest sentence in Canadian history for that crime that didn’t involve alcohol, drugs or purposeful behaviour.
Since that crash, a stand of trees on a farm yard at the intersection has been removed to improve visibility for people on both highways.
The Ministry of Highways said it also conducted a safety review of the intersection and implemented all 13 recommendations.
According to the ministry, those changes included “enhancing signage, installing stop ahead pavement messages, installing larger-sized stop and stop ahead signs, and installing rumble strips on Highway 335 approaches and installing light standards.”
The Humboldt Broncos tragedy wasn’t the first crash to kill multiple people at that intersection.
Six white crosses, three small and three large, stand in a ditch on the southeast side of the intersection of Highways 35 and 335.
The crosses commemorate a family killed there in 1997.
Humboldt Broncos crash site is no stranger to tragedy
The pickup truck the family was travelling in failed to stop at the Highway 335 stop sign, crashing into a grain truck on Highway 35 and bursting into flames.
Three adults and three children, all from the same family, died.
Nipawin RCMP say they are continuing to investigate the latest fatal collision at the site with the assistance of a collision reconstructionist.
