Nova Scotia RCMP have formally charged two teen boys with sexual assault in connection with an alleged hazing incident involving members of a youth hockey team in the Truro area.

Both of the teens were 14 years old at the time of the alleged offences, which police say occurred last October.

Both of the teens are charged with sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon. According to court documents which were sworn on Tuesday of this week, the weapon was a miniature hockey stick.

One of the teens is also charged with assault.

Both accused are free on conditions and have been ordered to stay away from three youths. They have also been banned from public locker rooms, unless accompanied by an adult.

The identities of all the youths involved in this matter are protected by a publication ban under the Youth Criminal Justice Act because they are under 18, and CBC News is not identifying the team involved. Players under 18 play for a variety of leagues in Nova Scotia, ranging from regional minor teams to provincial minor teams to major teams and junior teams.

The case is due in youth court in Truro in mid-April.

When RCMP initially announced their investigation earlier this month, they said three youth were facing charges.

They subsequently arrested a fourth youth.

In a statement to CBC News on Tuesday afternoon, RCMP said the investigation is still ongoing and any information about additional charges and additional suspects will be provided through the courts.
